Do It Yourself!

Having fun riding your scooter around town? Want to upgrade your scooter? Scooters are inexpensive enough that you can tear that baby apart yourself and customize its looks or performance.

If you ever wanted to work on a motorcycle start with your scooter. Take it from me it is a blast. There all sorts of little modifications you can take upon yourself. Aftermarket grips are one of the easiest things to tackle first. You can also take your seat off and get it reupholstered and your local upholstery shop, maybe try using a two color pattern. Those big ugly factory blinkers are a simple switch as well. Simply go to any motorcycle supply shop and get some aftermarket blinkers. Most will fit in the originally hole or you can drill a new one and connect the wiring with some simple crimps.

Best thing about it is if you do screw up, the value of your scooter will usually not drop that much depending on the screw up and the original cost (usually 50cc bikes have a bottom out value for anything running like $900). Most parts can be replaced on a small scooter for less than $300, even the engine. If all else fails at least you tried and you can now haul it off to your local mechanic. :)
